As You Like It Unedited: Open to Close with Axel Boman

About this event

Unedited is one artist, one room, the whole night. No opener. The dance floor is a different place at hour five than at hour one. Most nights never get there. Axel Boman first played AYLI in 2014. He came back to Monarch in 2016 and to Public Works twice in 2018. We had a rooftop planned with him in 2020, but the lockdown got in the way. This will be his first night with us open to close. Axel was born and raised in Stockholm, where he still lives. He co-founded Studio Barnhus, the house and left-field pop label that has become one of the city's defining musical institutions. His sound has been called “raw, playful, and drenched in oceans of soul.” His records have come out on Pampa, Mule Musiq, Permanent Vacation, DFA, Cocoon, and Barnhus. With John Talabot, he makes music as Talaboman, releasing on R&S. He’s played Panorama Bar, Nowadays, Sónar, MUTEK, Coachella, and BBC Radio 1. At home in Sweden, he’s been named Composer of the Year by the Society of Composers & Songwriters and nominated for P3 Awards and Grammis several times. His two 2022 albums, LUZ and Quest for Fire, came out on Barnhus and were well reviewed by Pitchfork. This year brings an EP on Aus Music and two collaborative LPs on Barnhus. $17-33 | 21+
